Michael E. McLaughlin

Michael McLaughlin is vice president of site services at Palo Verde Generating Station for Arizona Public Service Company (APS). Based in Phoenix, APS is Arizona’s largest energy company and serves more than 1.3 million homes and businesses across the state.

McLaughlin works with the security force, fire department, supply chain, support services and several other functional areas at Palo Verde. He also is active in leader training and mentoring programs. Previously, he served as director, technical support, at the plant, working with chemistry and radiation protection professionals.

Before joining Palo Verde, McLaughlin had a 30-year career in the U.S. Naval Submarine Force. He commanded the submarine USS La Jolla and served as commodore of Submarine Squadron 11 and chief of staff of Naval Submarine Forces. He rose to the rank of rear admiral, and in his last job in the Navy, was commander of Submarine Group Two, comprising the 25 attack submarines on the East Coast and associated 4,000 men and women.

McLaughlin received a Bachelor of Science degree in ocean engineering from the United States Naval Academy. He also has an MBA degree from the University of Nebraska.
