As you might guess, the electric distribution system that delivers power to our million–plus customers across Arizona is really, really complex. However, thanks to some forward planning and state–of–the–art technology, the distribution system will soon become far more manageable, responsive and intuitive for those who operate it. The new technology—called the Distribution Operations Management System (or DOMS to its friends)—will help manage Arizona’s rapid growth and increase reliability by allowing the company to analyze power flow, locate system faults, reduce customer outage durations and a whole lot more…all in real time. It can also display high–level maps of the entire APS electric system on a dozen cutting–edge LCD screens.
