Name: Erica Davis Position: Accounting IBOS Intern Work Location: Corporate Headquarters
My name is Erica Davis. I am currently a senior Computer Information Systems major at Arizona State University. I will be graduating in May of 2007. I currently work at Pinnacle West as a year-round intern. I began working with Pinnacle West in March of 2006. During my time with the company, I have had the privilege to work on the IBOS project. Interning on the project has allowed me to gain valuable experience and knowledge in my field. It has also allowed me to gain experience in a variety of different areas in information systems. With my internship thus far, the connection between my education and the real-world has been brought to life. While working with the company, I have experienced a very comfortable yet challenging work environment. I have worked with excellent co-workers who are always willing find ways to help me learn and grow professionally. Although I am an intern I am treated equal to other employees and as part of the team. I have been given various tasks and responsibilities as if I was a full time employee. Most importantly, Pinnacle West has done an outstanding job of being concerned with not only my work but also my education. While interning during the year, Pinnacle West has been extremely flexible allowing me to balance work with school. Overall, I have had an excellent experience with Pinnacle West and would highly recommend the internship to others.
Name: Greg Yung Position: Information Services Intern Work Location: APSES
My name is Greg Yung and am currently working with APS Energy Services in the Commodity Department where the days are always interesting! I am also a full time bookworm at Arizona State University studying Computer Information Systems and attempting to glean every learning opportunity possible! I believe that the least of learning is done in a classroom and I am always looking for new adventures away from a textbook to get real life experience. Hence, my internship with Pinnacle West! At APS Energy Services I dabble with an array of varying software and fascinating technologies and am always forced to learn something new to keep up. I also am entrusted with delivering training to coworkers in hopes that it may simplify their routine activities. The working environment and individuals within this company are filled with energy and optimism that makes my days enjoyable. Before working with APSES, I was employed at APS in a department called Center for Processing Excellence (CPE). I was part of a wonderful team that thrived on Business Optimization and ironing out kinks in a department’s processes. I was up to my ears in business process analysis, risk analysis, metrics, flowcharts, and the works! It was working with CPE that taught me a plethora of business terminology and TLAs (Three Letter Acronyms) as well as a better understanding of different departments within the Pinnacle West arena. On a side note in which few will understand, it was in CPE that I learned why it is better to be a river and not a lake, and why mistakes should be diverted by building a lighthouse. During my time here, I have traversed hundreds of business processes, created a business process analysis tool, developed an engagement’s management application, learned proper facilitation techniques, brainstormed in meetings, witnessed proper etiquette for different business environments and researched technologies that may only be emerging, to name a few. Being a part of Pinnacle West over the year has presented learning opportunities in abundance in areas that textbooks will never cover. The positive community involvement and the care Pinnacle West provides their employees make it a pleasure and gratifying experience to be a part of. Name: Marcus Ontiveros Position: Information Services Intern Work Location: Corporate Headquarters
My name is Marcus Ontiveros and I am an IS Intern in the Application Comptency Center at APS. I am currently in my Senior year at Arizona State University pursuing concurrent degrees: BS in Computer Information Systems and a BS in Supply Chain Management through the W.P. Carey School of Business. After I graduate I also plan to pursue an MBA. I am involved with the Hispanic Business Students Association and I am the President for the Spring 2007 semester. I also enjoy volunteering for community events such as Habitat for Humanity, Angelitos Amigos, Chicanos Por La Causa Gifts for the Kids, and I am involved with All Saints Newman Center at ASU. When I have free time I enjoy playing the guitar, and I have recently started to learn the piano. At APS I have been able to implement the theories and principles of in class material to practical real-world work scenarios. During my first year at APS I worked in the Center for Process Excellence (CPE). CPE enabled me to work on cross-functional projects and I gained knowledge in different areas of the company. The highly motivated and skilled professionals in CPE challenged me to produce the highest quality materials in an efficient and timely manner. Also…working with such a motley team taught me to customize my attitude for each individual; these on-the-job skills are invaluable and are not the focus in most classrooms. In addition to my team, I was also afforded the opportunity to conduct “Informational Interviews” with established leaders: Armando Flores, Keith Bacon, and Marc Sauvageau. These leaders did not hesitate to spend time with me sharing knowledge in their respective areas of the business. The commitment and willingness of these individuals to take time out of their busy schedules is a testament to how great the company culture is at APS!
