While we do not manage our EHS and sustainability efforts with a goal of winning awards, we do believe that awards and recognition of our efforts by external organizations is another way for our stakeholders to evaluate our performance.

In 2005, the company received the following external awards and recognitions of our corporate responsibility efforts:

  • Pinnacle West was named one of the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World by Corporate Knights at the 2005 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland
  • Pinnacle West received the highest rating (AAA) and ranked in the top two of utilities in the United States by Innovest Strategic Value Advisors in a comprehensive analysis on the U.S. Electric Power Sector covering the environmental, social and governance factors of the largest publicly-traded utility companies
  • PNW was listed in the 2005 Dow Jones North America Sustainability Index and the 2005 Dow Jones United States  Sustainability Index as a sustainability leader in the electric industry
  • APS won the coveted "Crescordia" award from Valley Forward for its work at the APS  Solar Test and Research (STAR) Center in Tempe, Arizona. STAR won this award as the top honor in the Arizona private sector environmental technologies category
  • The company was named 2005 "Conservationist of the Year" by the Arizona/New Mexico chapter of the American Fisheries Society for its work on the Childs Irving Power Plant decommissioning
  • 2005 Clean Air Champion Award from the Clean Cities Coalition for the APS Hydrogen Fueling Station
  • Award of Merit in the Livable Communities category from Valley Forward Association for the APS Redhawk power plant, which was recognized for its efforts in creating a sustainable environment
  • Tree Line USA Award for APS by the Arizona Community Tree Council in recognition of APS' leadership in urban forestry and environmental stewardship - the ninth consecutive year the company has received this award
  • Stevie Award in the category of Best Customer Service Team at the American Business Awards for efforts in avoiding customer curtailments following a fire at Westwing Substation
  • 2005 Corporation of the Year by the Greater Phoenix Black Chamber of Commerce
  • Arizona Corporate Leadership Award by the Arizona Chamber of Commerce
  • Copper Sun Award for communications by the International Association of Business Communicators' (IABC) Phoenix Chapter
  • Leadership Giving Award for 2004-2005 United Way Campaign from the Valley of the Sun United Way
  • President's Award, presented by the Grand Canyon Minority Supplier Development Council for commitment to enhance opportunities for minority-owned businesses
  • 2005 Interactive Investor Relations award, presented by Web Marketing Association for outstanding Investor Relations site
  • Award from the City of Phoenix for APS' community service and support to the city
  • Edison Electric Institute Advocacy Excellence Award for APS' "Get Out to Vote" program
