Trying to predict the future with any precision can be a fool's errand, but failure to plan for the future is folly.
As a company that has served Arizona for 120 years, we know that who we are is, in large measure, based upon who we were; and who we were is the basis for what we will become in the future. We also know that our future is a shared one with our customers, shareholders, employees and the communities in which we live and do business.
This concept of a shared future, based upon the actions of the present, is captured in the title of our Pinnacle West Annual Report, "Your Future Our Future", and at the root of this concept is the idea of sustainability. It is an idea that is easy to talk about but not easy to accomplish. Sustainability requires a vigilant commitment to excellence not just in daily business operations, but also in our account for a future that demands a healthful environment and creates the opportunity for a high quality of life for everyone.
Investors and consumers alike know that great companies combine a fair return on investment and a commitment to building strong communities. At APS we know it also and we're proud to be recognized as a socially and environmentally conscious company:
-
In 2005, Pinnacle West was named one of the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World by Corporate Knights at the 2005 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland
-
Pinnacle West also received the highest rating (AAA) and ranked in the top two of utilities in the United States by Innovest Strategic Value Advisors in a comprehensive analysis on the U.S. Electric Power Sector covering the environmental, social and governance factors of the largest publicly-traded utility companies
-
APS earned the coveted "Crescordia" award from Valley Forward for work at the APS Solar Test and Research (STAR) Center in Tempe, Arizona
But we will not rest on yesterday's accomplishments. We look forward to our tomorrows and confronting the important issues such as climate change that will face our company, our communities and our industry on a local, regional and global level.
Thank you for your interest in Pinnacle West and our 2005 Corporate Responsibility Report.
