We strive to reduce or eliminate emissions of environmentally harmful substances. At our Four Corners Power Plant, we have completed a pilot study on our ability to increase removal of Sulfur Oxides (SOx). We are currently analyzing the data to determine what increased removal rates we can sustain for the future. We are also exploring voluntary emissions reductions strategies at our Cholla Power Plant.

APS has taken a proactive approach to reducing emissions through a dialogue between APS, the environmental community and regulators. By taking a collaborative approach, we can make the reductions much more quickly and cost-effectively. This is a win-win situation for APS, the environment and regulators. Our company maintains air emissions per megawatt-hour at or below industry averages. This is achieved through a combination of nuclear power, emissions control technology, improved power plant efficiency and a more diverse fuel mix, including nuclear, gas/oil, coal and renewables.

"Pinnacle West and APS have collaborated closely with Environmental Defense in developing an emissions control program for two of its coal-fired power plants. Environmental Defense applauds APS for its strong commitment to work with our organization in an on-going dialogue on ways to make important air pollution control improvements at these facilities."
