Integrity, honesty, fairness, accountability, caring and respect.
These are not simply words at Pinnacle West. Rather, they are the values by which we conduct our business and ourselves.
We have several policies, standards, and plans that underscore the importance of our commitment to excellence and ethical business practices. These documents guide us on our day to day committment to accountability in business, responsiveness in service and fairness in employment.
Our Ethics Policy helps us comply with policies, laws and regulations. Our Standards of Business Practices focuses on meeting company standards and legal requirements.
Specifically, the Standards of Business Practices stipulates that we will not attempt to interfere or influence employees’ rights to organize or to bargain collectively, nor will we take punitive action against anyone who reports suspected illegal activity by the company or a fellow employee.
As an energy company, in addition to being responsive to our employees, our stakeholders and our community, we also are accountable to the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC), the regulatory agency for utilities. The APS Code of Conduct outlines the relationship between our traditional energy delivery company, APS, and our competitive retail company, APS Energy Services. The Code of Conduct, approved by the ACC, requires that business conducted between APS and APS Energy Services complies with Arizona’s rules of electric utility competition.
The Environmental, Health and Safety Policy outlines our concern for the environment in which we live and our commitment to the health and safety of our employees and community. This document also emphasizes our adherence to the Coalition for Environmentally Responsible Economies (CERES) principles. The EHS Management Plan augments these policies and principles and outlines responsibilities for meeting federal, state, county, municipal, and tribal environmental, health and safety laws and regulations under which we operate. We use all of these documents to reinforce sound, ethical and profitable business practice, service to the community and fairness to employees.
Maintaining day to day compliance with all applicable environmental, health and safety laws and regulations is a key objective of all EHS management systems. To strengthen our compliance management systems we implemented the Compliance Assurance Management Practice and the Compliance Assurance Program in 2002. The management practice establishes a four-tier assessment process and outlines management expectations relative to routine and periodic compliance assessments, reporting, corrective actions, and roles and responsibilities.
