APS supports the crossroads of the Southwest
For hundreds of years, Gila Bend has been part of an important transportation route in the settling, development and growth of the southwest. Although it might seem surprising, Gila Bend also is a great place for the expansion and growth of arizona businesses.
APS has seen the potential of Gila Bend and has helped the community attract new business development which has led to a boost in the local economy as well as new jobs for Gila Bend residents. Doubletree Paper, LLC recently opened a new plant in Gila Bend and APS was instrumental in helping with the site selection as well as supporting the company's electrical needs.

APS worked closely with Doubletree Paper to help them select the right Arizona site for their business location. The company was looking for a site that had:
- The right-sized parcel of land at a good price
- A good water supply
- Railroad access
- Interstate highway access
- Proximity to an existing Doubletree facility in south Phoenix
- A pool of potential employees
"We received great help in our decision making from APS and Gila Bend," said Doubletree Chief Financial Officer Sunil Kanuga, in an Arizona Department of Commerce press release announcing the site selection.
APS has a long history of supporting Gila Bend's economic growth and development. Doubletree's site selection is just one example. According to Economic Development Director Stacey Young of the town of Gila Bend, APS was a good mentor during the selection process.
"Gila Bend is a growing community and we are working hard to attract new businesses," Young said. "There is no doubt that APS helped us attract Doubletree Paper. APS employees put a lot of time and effort into this project and we appreciate their support and commitment to our community."
Doubletree Paper's Gila Bend facility will make jumbo tissue rolls for consumer paper products.
