Bob Bement

Bob Bement is executive vice president and chief nuclear officer at Palo Verde Generating Station for Arizona Public Service Company (APS). Based in Phoenix, APS is Arizona’s largest electric company and serves more than 1.2 million customers across the state.

Bement is responsible for all nuclear-related activities associated with the Palo Verde Generating Station, the nation’s largest power producer of carbon-free energy.

Prior to joining APS in 2007, Bement held nuclear leadership positions with Arkansas Nuclear One, as the site general manager, and Clinton Power Station, as the site vice president. Bement began his career in the U. S. Navy serving aboard submarines as a nuclear-trained electrician. Prior to being appointed chief nuclear officer for APS in November 2016, Bement served as the senior vice president of site operations.

Bement is a member of the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) Executive Advisory Group; STARS Nuclear Alliance Board of Directors; Nuclear Strategic Issues Advisory Committee (NSIAC); NuScale Advisory Board; Industry and Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Risk Informed Steering Committee; Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) Nuclear Power Council Executive Committee; CNO liaison for EPRI Fuels & Chemistry Executive Committee; Executive Chair of EPRI Fuel Reliability Program Research Integration Committee and a member of the industry’s Delivering the Nuclear Promise Steering Committee. Bement is also a member of the White Tank Mountains Conservancy Board and Northern Arizona University Foundation Board.

Bement graduated from the U.S. Navy Nuclear Power School and Prototype Training Unit. He acquired his reactor operator and senior reactor operator licenses from Arkansas Nuclear One. He also graduated from the INPO Senior Nuclear Plant Management Program, the Wharton/Entergy Executive Program and the Exelon Leadership Institute.

Bement earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physical science from Arkansas Tech University.
